Double Drive Time Explained

Learn how Double Drive Time works and how it applies to local moving services in California.

WHAT IS DOUBLE DRIVE TIME? - Double Drive Time, often called DDT, is a billing rule used for local moves in California. Under BHGS regulations, licensed moving companies charge double the actual drive time between the pick-up location and the delivery location. This helps account for the mover’s return travel after the job is completed.

WHY DOES DDT EXIST? - DDT creates a standardized way to calculate driving charges for local moves. Instead of building round-trip travel into higher hourly rates, the actual drive time between your old and new address is measured, doubled, and added to the moving bill. This keeps the charge tied to the real distance and travel time between the two locations.

HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR MOVE? - During your move, Osmon Moving & Storage calculates the actual driving time from your pick-up address to your delivery address. That drive time is then doubled. For example, if the drive from point A to point B takes 20 minutes, 40 minutes of drive time will be added to the total move time.

DOES DDT APPLY TO ALL MOVES? - Double Drive Time generally applies to local moving services within California. Long-distance moves, flat-rate moves, or special service arrangements may be priced differently depending on the written estimate and service agreement.

NEED MORE INFORMATION? - You can review the Maximum Rate Tariff for additional reference. If you have questions about how DDT may apply to your specific move, contact Osmon Moving & Storage before booking and our team will explain the charge clearly.
